GREAT SCOTT: HARRISON SNATCHES POLE AT CROFT
June 24, 2013Hat-trick of scholarship class wins for Harrison Scott
August 6, 2013
Another successful weekend for Harrison at the demanding Croft circuit. Friday’s two free practise sessions were very productive posting times that would be quick enough for a front row start.
Saturday started well and Harrison posted a very quick time on his first flying lap that was 0.08s faster than the competition. The Falcon Motorsport Mygale driver was delighted: “My pole lap was something special… I don’t know how I pulled it out. I was a second quicker than I was in testing yesterday. My other laps were also quite quick.” This was the first pole position for the Essex driver and the only driver to achieve a pole other than the Series leader this year to date.
Race 1; Scott’s problems began even before the lights went out as he had difficulties selecting first gear on the green flag lap and got away dead last. Rules stipulate that in such a situation drivers are not permitted to overtake to regain their starting position. Harrison did just that and was duly penalised
with a drive-through penalty, on lap four and leading the race Harrison headed for
a slow drive down pit lane, re-joining last. “I did what was allowed in Karting
making my way safely back to the front of the grid on the rolling up lap but now I know this is not permitted, disappointing but I will not make that mistake again”.
Harrison re-joined last but with his fast pace he soon caught the chasing pack and charged up to eighth by the end of the 20 minute race.
Race 2 was another good showing, from grid position 2 Harrison spent most of the race chasing down championship leader Dan Cammish but finished in 2nd place taking another scholarship win.
Race 3; Starting from 3rd on the grid. Harrison passed Maranzana on lap two and set after championship leader Dan Cammish, who extended his lead to 3.3s. But by mid-distance Scott was starting to make inroads into the leader’s advantage, “Half-way through I saw that the gap was closing,” said Harrison, “and the team was giving me signals to keep pushing, but I think by then I had used the best of my tyres in trying to catch him.” Scott finished 2nd at the line for his fourth second-place finish, and his thirteenth Scholarship class victory of the season. “It’s a good result and it shows that we have the potential to win races this year. Hopefully I can now go away and take a bit of a break and then get some testing in to make sure I come back sharp.”
The teams and drivers now have six weeks to regroup before the championship returns to action at Snetterton at the beginning of August.
