October 9, 2017Harrison Scott continued his winning streak at the iconic Autodromo Nazionale di Monza this weekend to secure the 2017 Euroformula Open Drivers’ title with two rounds of the championship still remaining. The 21-year-old, from Althorne in Essex, has already achieved 10 race wins and today clinched his fifth consecutive qualifying pole position on his way to securing the championship title for his Italian RP Motorsport team.
On Saturday morning the BRDC Rising Star programme member clinched his eighth series pole in the #10 RP Motorsports Dallara F312 with a 1:43.840 minute lap. He continued to display his ever-improving race craft by securing his ninth race win of the season later in the day. Harrison’s lights to flag domination commenced from the very start of the 16 laps contest, with the EF Open rookie taking the chequered flag a full four seconds ahead of the field.
Monza then brought one of the most memorable Euroformula Open Formula 3 races ever seen. In the morning, Harrison continued his outstanding qualifying performance with a fifth consecutive pole position. The incident filled race in the afternoon made for thrilling viewing. The Briton made a good start but soon the safety car was depolyed to retrieve the Carlin car of Devlin DeFrancesco. After two laps, the race went green again and Harrison pulled away, but two further yellow flagged safety car moments punctured what would have otherwise been another dominating performance as Harrison finally took the checkered flag in first place at the end of the 18 laps contest.
The Circuito de Jerez will play host to Euroformula Open’s penultimate round next weekend when the series joins the FIA Formula 2 and GP3 Series event.
