GREAT SCOTT: HARRISON SNATCHES POLE AT CROFT
June 24, 2013
Harrison Scott had an up and down weekend on his debut Dunlop MSA Formula Ford season race at Oulton Park this weekend. The two Friday test sessions went to plan with some impressive lap times and with every lap completed both Harrison and his Falcon Motorsport team gained increasing knowledge on the Formula Ford EcoBoost 200 Mygale.
Qualifying was near perfect posting the second quickest time placing Harrison 2nd on the Grid for all three races.
In Race 1 saw Harrison was not as quick off the starting line as he can be and dropped him to 3rd behind Cammish and Brabham, but he was soon challenging for 2nd place on the difficult 2.2 mile Island Circuit which is notoriously difficult to overtake on. On lap six Harrison made a rare mistake when he clipped the tyre wall entering the fast Knickerbrook corner which damaged the front suspension causing retirement. This was Harrison’s first race retirement of the Series; and shows that each race builds experience and confidence, all part of the learning experience coming as the 4th event after Harrison’s championship winning Kart career!
Race 2 provided tremendous excitement for the Team and the tens of thousands of spectators at this weekend’s event when the Essex youngster became the first driver to not only overtake Dan Cammish the Series leader at the start but to lead a race in the 2013 championship. Unfortunately, this was short lived as the start line official judged Harrison to have jumped the start when his clutch dragged and drifted the EcoBoost Mygale seconds before and several inches over the starting box line!. The penalty was a ‘drive through’ which was taken on lap 6 surrendering the lead once again to Cammish which was disappointing not just to Harrison and his team but the spectators who for once witnessed a real race for the lead in the newly revamped Formula Ford 2013 Series. Harrison finished the race after a sterling fight back in 6th place.
In Race 3 Harrison kept his cool and slotted into 2nd place and stayed there to the end. Harrison remained very quick in the race, matching the leading time lap for lap. This was a well-deserved result after the disappointment of the first two races and this result went some way to rectify the championship points earned and lost in the DNF in Race 1.
Harrison said; “This was a hard weekend but I feel that we have made some big steps into challenging the points leader Dan Cammish and I feel we have a car that is more than capable of winning races very soon. I must thank the Falcon Motorsport Team for the progress made to date, my driver coach Ollie Hancock who helps tremendously Circuit by Circuit and gives me the confidence to compete each race weekend and most importantly my family and my manager Peter Fenichel for their continuing support”.
