Harrison to Race Formula Ford in 2013 with Falcon Motor Sport

FALCON SWOOPS ON FORMULA FORD WITH KART STAR HARRISON SCOTT

• Essex karter Scott named as Falcon’s first signing for coming season
• Falcon Motorsport plans to run three Mygale EcoBoost chassis

31 January, 2013 – Top single-seater team Falcon Motorsport is the latest to commit to the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain for the coming season, and today names the first of its three drivers as young karting star Harrison Scott.

Scott, who will turn 17 a couple of weeks before the season gets underway at Brands Hatch over Easter, is a strong prospect, says Falcon team boss Nick Streatfield: “We tested Harrison in a Formula BMW car a year ago and he impressed us immensely – we had hoped to get him into our team for 2012 but for one reason or another it didn’t happen, so we are delighted that now we have been able to put together a deal and that he will be out there in Formula Ford.”

Essex-based Scott has been karting since the age of 10 and among his many achievements is third place in the KF3 World Championship in 2011, as well as victory last year in the Senior Rotax European Winter Cup.

Falcon will race the Mygale EcoBoost chassis and plans a three-car squad: it’s something of a return for the team, which was formed in 1985 to run Streatfield in British Formula Ford. Falcon ran a three-car team in the championship in 1992 and ’93 and subsequently went on to race in British F3, UK Formula Renault and Intersteps.

Streatfield says he is delighted to be back in Formula Ford as it embarks on a new era of racing with aerodynamically enhanced chassis and 1.6-litre turbocharged EcoBoost power unit combining to provide young drivers with the most technically advanced junior single-seater racing car in the world, and an unrivalled learning experience.

“The championship becoming a supporting event to the BTCC is a big draw, especially for the drivers,” he added. “I have been impressed by the update of the car, and the whole thing makes a very good package which is attractive to our drivers and makes it easier for them, to find the financial backing to do it.

“We are pleased to be using the Mygale chassis – we have known them for a long time and enjoy a good relationship with them; it was the natural thing for us to continue.”

Harrison’s father, John Scott, is a former racer himself, having competed in Fiestas and Group N saloons. He too is relishing the Formula Ford challenge: “Harrison has gone extremely well in karts and is now ready to embark on a racing programme. We looked at all the options available and Formula Ford proved the ideal choice, not least because of the high-profile race meetings. Harrison is raring to go and we are hoping for good things.”

Welcoming Falcon to Formula Ford, Sam Roach of championship promoter RacingLine, said: “Falcon has a long track record and a great reputation in the industry, so having the team on board is naturally a major bonus for us, not least because it comes so soon after Radical and SWB Motorsport announced their Formula Ford plans.

“Other new teams are close to making a commitment, and the grid assembling for the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain is looking ever stronger.”
